Scenes from my book as reenacted by my cats

So I was on Next Steps Radio on Wednesday night, hosted by Jenny Milchman, alongside authors Dana Carpenter, Jennifer Kincheloe and JS Law. We all have the distinction of being part of the Debut Class of 2016 of the International Thriller Writers, and it’s a pretty exciting deal–we get a breakfast at Thrillerfest next July! I used to go to all of their events with a microphone and ask the members about their books, so I am pretty thrilled to be on the other side of the buffet table.

It was a rousing hour of conversation, and it was interesting to hear what constitutues a thriller. Dana’s book (which comes out next week) is set in 13th century Bohemia (and I will be reading it like it’s my job come Tuesday!) James, or JS, wrote a taut murder mystery set on a submarine. Jennifer’s novel is about a sassy socialite turned cop in 1910 Los Angeles. And mine is a fantasy/adventure, I guess you could say.  Here’s the link, if you’d like to listen. 

At one point, wit overcame reason and I remarked that as part of my social media routine, I liked to take videos of my cats re-creating scenes from my books, and post them on my blog. Haha! That’s funny. It’s also not something I’ve actually, technically done yet. So to avoid any notion that I’m making this up as I go along, I am proud(ish) to present:

Now, I feel like this needs some setting up. Onion, seen there on the right, gets to play the hero, Rhuun, because they both are large for their species and have silky black hair. Leeloo, as a more seasoned performer, may be called upon for a variety of roles, male and female, human and demon, as the script demands. In this particular piece, the two main characters, Rhuun and Lelet, are having a conversation in the evening while sitting at a small campfire. Ladies and gentlemen, page 168 of The Sand Prince.

I should probably mention that in my book there is a great deal less self-grooming, almost no socks, very little laundry, and it doesn’t take place on a Kraken bedspread. Other than that, it’s truly uncanny.
