Release date and some repair work
It’s my release date. My new release date- the earlier one was reconsidered. This was my initial reaction:
WHY? WHY HAVE I BROUGHT SHAME TO THE VILLAGE? I HAVE TO GO BACK TO BEING A TRAFFIC REPORTER! TIE ME TO A POST AND CHUCK ROCKS AT ME I DON’T DESERVE TO LIVE
So that went on for a while. Then I got my big-girl panties on and moved on to Phase Two:
Once that was out of my system, it was time to figure out where I went wrong and get back to work. I quickly realized it was really my own fault. We’re going to learn about publishing now, so hang on to something.
See, I’ve been writing about Rhuun and Lelet and their friends and families for over two years. I am INVESTED in their adventures and their relationship. I wrote the beginning of The Demon Door over a year ago, and I’m currently working on the beginning of Book Three (and editing Book Two like I promised, KELLIE.)
So as the time to publish my first book drew closer, I had to do a bunch of things. I wrote an acknowledgement page (that was fun, not gonna lie) and we picked the cover, which of course is glorious. Then I had to write the blurb. Well, I thought, the book is about my beloved Rhuun and what happens to him in the human world, and how he comes to meet (and fall in love with) a human woman who has no time for his nonsense.
Yes and No (as my husband likes to say.)
Yes, all those things are true, but when you start reading The Demon Door, it’s the story of the fall of a great city and the trials of a young and untested queen who is also hiding a very inconvenient pregnancy. If you went in expecting Demon Harry Meets Human Sally, you might be disappointed to realize you were reading The Grapes of Magical Wrath. There is comedy and there certainly is romance, but it’s not a romantic comedy. And to those who felt somewhat misled, I apologize.
So we’re doing some retooling, I’m rewriting the blurb right now. (Right now–it’s in an open document in the next tab.) And I’m learning that getting a book published is more than just slapping the words on the page in the right order.
And because I need extra inspiration, your bonus boypic features Joss Whedon, and the back of my head.
